Lokpal Bill & Sports Bill has one similarity that individuals in power/position are out rightly opposing the inception. Establishment of transparency and being answerable seems to be denting their egos, as if corruption & creation of personal wealth thru public funds is their birth right. Apprehensive about keeping people informed those who unknowingly got them to the pedestal.
5 Cabinet ministers are associated with cricket are also not in favour of Sports Bill. Have they ever contemplated to be presidents of sports federations other than cricket and show some signs of improvement to the respective sport? Or are aware about technical, strategic aspect of the game on-field? It would be interesting to watch what creative improvements Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh would bring to Mumbai Cricket with his extensive experience. The fact remains - Cricket is a success story, just get connected & enjoy.
On the other hand, so far what has been done by Sports Ministry to promote Cricket or other sports in the country? A bureaucrat doesn’t even know the basic difference between sports apparel and performance apparel for sports. By creating document/s what all has been accomplished so far in promotion of sports/players? Hope there is a success story to be shared. Probably, rules would be fabricated to give Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar for his contribution to Indian Cricket.
Nevertheless, it’s a good initiative by Sports Ministry to create a national policy covering all the sports under its umbrella. (Hope the umbrella opens up) But, does it create enough room, resources and motivation for players/youth to take up sports as a career or just putting few more blocks in their path or questioning achievements of successful sportsperson! Another perspective, policy creation could be the platform for office bearers get involved in the team selection process thus gaining importance & attention irrespective of their sports acumen & credentials.
Since sport in India is still a personal initiative of an individual. Career in chosen sport cannot be guaranteed, so is the fair chance. Also, selection in the team too happens purely on merit & performance is highly questionable. Therefore, there is scope of few more policies/bills to be created and keep officials busy “working”!!!
Excellent expression of thoughts !

Very rightly said.. I particularly liked ur observation on politicians/bureaucrats, if becoming heads of the respective sports associations wld know the difference between sports apparel & performance apparel !! True.. we have seen it all till now.. Should we expect a change in the near future.. Lets hope for the best with this new sports bill..
ReplyDeleteIt is true that Cricket is a success story and everyone wants to have a piece of that.
