In India, everybody is an expert on almost every subject.
Mostly, one comes across these characters in meetings, conferences, committees, competitions etc. Most represent institutions, councils, organisations or are independent consultants. Very limited portion among these are actual SME (subject matter expert), in other cases its "so-called" SCE (self claimed expert).
There are few typical characteristics of SCE's:
- High on confidence & Low on knowledge
- Compromised integrity/bias & illusory superiority
- Low ability & external perception of high ability
It is hilarious to hear SCE and actually ironical to witness that a bunch of jokers even represent country at times. However, SCE are preferred due to castles they can build in air, articulating fake patriotism and mediocrity in standard. Thus, displaying lack of knowledge.
But, who makes them experts? who finds them? ..people heading significant projects with same traits...that's where the cause of disaster is.
Bertrand Russel summarises Dunning Kruger Effect it perfectly - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are so certain of themselves, yet wiser people are so full of doubts".
