Covid & Culture

Until few weeks back, life was commonly seen as overscheduled, machine dominated and sometimes soulless. People were spending money they didn’t have, bought things they didn’t need, impress people they didn’t like, postponing improving health etc..what a poor way to live!!

Often, a bad example teaches us more about who we wish to become than a good one could ever provide. And in this world of so many hardened human beings who have lost access to who they truly are while considering themselves the most superior specie and in some cases god.

Covid and lockdown has exposed people to do-it-yourself culture which earlier was to be watched online or usually ignored. It has created another model of rat race, the digital, which includes webinars, teleconferences etc on various platforms. Both of it, lot of people will find it really difficult as most are used to have someone doing it for them. Humans, as we know surely will find a way to crack this so that blame n burden shifts to someone else. The usual mediocre mentality.

One major positive aspect of Covid - social distancing - has arrived. Which again will be nearly impossible to implement as people are not self-regulated and are habitual of stacking on to one another in markets & public transport (metro, bus, air), refuse to understand how to stand in a queue, least bothered about distancing despite so much promotion & threat. Everyone know that in absence of medical facilities & medicine for Covid we have to live with it, but don’t want to change their behaviors & habits. Especially shameless liquor connoisseurs made a mockery of social distancing & lockdown to hoard the booze.

Since it is a matter of time and not if but when. This nuisance will be short lived as we have seen nature rebooting itself. So, taking care of basics should become the new normal while other things are optional.

However, it’s yet another reminder that nature is supreme & history isn’t kind to people who play god.

Indian Sports – All Undies Down

Sports have been making real great news since past one year. Be it Commonwealth games or Cricket or any other thru their respective sports associations. CWG once again hogged the limelight with all its justified massively escalated expenditures, featuring exceptionally talented personalities who have extensive experience in playing the game. Yoga and walking is also considered sports by few!! Well it’s about playing game to ones advantage and to win, for country/state/club or self. Facts show that priority is in reverse order, that perhaps stops at first point itself. Let’s analyze cwg & cricket recently unearthed equations in positivity. Games of high magnitude were hosted after 2.8 decades and one cannot predict when would be the next honour to host international multi-game event. So, by living in the moment, chance pe dance maar le. For personal luxuries India has supply of public money in abundance. While in cricket even if thoughts are fabricated thru commentators it’s ...

Power> Politics>Cricket

Sports have been the buzz since past few months. Be it glory, game or shame (scams)! Cricket has been the favorite even after Delhi somehow manage to host XIX Commonwealth Games last year, which perhaps would not happen in next few decades.  There was a point when cricket (on & off the field) was taken forward by the champions & visionaries, as they saw potential of the game getting bigger with time and its commercial success attracted many more in the backdrop of the game to enjoy the benefits with hardly any contribution. Change being constant phenomena, IPL did a massive turnaround in commercial terms and getting glamour quotient to the forefront. Which created desires to enjoy the power of position, visibility thru the game and receive associated numerous tangible/non-tangible benefits. This leads to the thought sports & sportsman being secondary. Basically, piggyback Cricket to have time of your life. Ride on someone else’s success with next to nil contributio...

Legendary Actor Sushant Singh Rajput : A Tribute

Legendary journey of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has been cut short, but has set an example and inspired many to be vocal about awful culture prevailing in the film industry. Yet his untimely demise crafted by few shameless and morally corrupt deemed owners of film industry failed to control outburst from professionals across industries, sectors and age groups. The mental agony Sushant suffered is experienced by most of the professionals who are talented, honest, believe in growing on merit, high on integrity, work professionally, refuse to compromise, ready to compete, take on challenges and speak the truth. While on the other hand, brigade of privilege mediocre individuals thrive due to invisible – yet predictable - hand of top management or are related to some influential parent/bureaucrat/family.   Having gone through similar experience while playing professional cricket (selectors, office bearers etc), working in industry association and during specialized projects...
