Legendary Actor Sushant Singh Rajput : A Tribute

Legendary journey of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has been cut short, but has set an example and inspired many to be vocal about awful culture prevailing in the film industry. Yet his untimely demise crafted by few shameless and morally corrupt deemed owners of film industry failed to control outburst from professionals across industries, sectors and age groups. The mental agony Sushant suffered is experienced by most of the professionals who are talented, honest, believe in growing on merit, high on integrity, work professionally, refuse to compromise, ready to compete, take on challenges and speak the truth. While on the other hand, brigade of privilege mediocre individuals thrive due to invisible – yet predictable - hand of top management or are related to some influential parent/bureaucrat/family.   Having gone through similar experience while playing professional cricket (selectors, office bearers etc), working in industry association and during specialized projects...

Covid & Culture

Until few weeks back, life was commonly seen as overscheduled, machine dominated and sometimes soulless. People were spending money they didn’t have, bought things they didn’t need, impress people they didn’t like, postponing improving health etc..what a poor way to live!! Often, a bad example teaches us more about who we wish to become than a good one could ever provide. And in this world of so many hardened human beings who have lost access to who they truly are while considering themselves the most superior specie and in some cases god. Covid and lockdown has exposed people to do-it-yourself culture which earlier was to be watched online or usually ignored. It has created another model of rat race, the digital, which includes webinars, teleconferences etc on various platforms. Both of it, lot of people will find it really difficult as most are used to have someone doing it for them. Humans, as we know surely will find a way to crack this so that blame n burden shifts to ...

Expert, an illusory superiority

In India, everybody is an expert on almost every subject.  Mostly, one comes across these characters in meetings, conferences, committees, competitions etc. Most represent institutions, councils, organisations or are independent consultants. Very limited portion among these are actual SME (subject matter expert), in other cases its  "so-called" SCE (self claimed expert).  There are few typical characteristics of SCE's: High on confidence & Low on knowledge Compromised integrity/bias &  illusory superiority  Low ability & external perception of high ability  It is  hilarious to hear SCE and actually ironical to witness that a bunch of jokers even represent country at times.  However, SCE are preferred due to castles they can build in air, articulating fake patriotism and mediocrity in standard. Thus, displaying lack of knowledge.  But, who makes them experts? who finds them? ..people heading significa...

PPP, a farce !!

PPP model..really ineffective. Primarily, due to rewarding culture for mediocrity at operational level and bureaucratic style of leadership. Essentially, due to highly inexperienced advisory group ( chamchas ) that top management cocoon itself with. This group is expert in displaying "Artificial Intelligence" which is accepted by the decision makers while the overall purpose gets bruised with each task & decision, on a daily basis. Members of Artificially Intelligent Advisory Group (AIAG) are usually niece/nephews etc etc to highest official or his friends who are obliged for a purpose which changes time to time. This majorly reflects in annual appraisals where it is predictable that enough or perhaps all of these characters will be rewarded y-o-y. Sic !! More so, this culture prevails in each organization which has govt. funding. Bureaucracy gets injected automatically, biasness is well known, pleasing known people through public money takes precedence and above ...

Confronting the brutal fact of skill development

In the endeavor of becoming great organization, acknowledging facts is better than wishful thinking / dreams i.e infusing the entire process with brutal facts of reality. Another aspect is taking series of good decisions, diligent execution and accumulated on top of another.  Skill development in India is nearly 7 yrs into practice and yet the direction & strategy is blur. While in the absence of confronting the brutal fact of wandering sector skill councils, the process to eliminate, change or replace is becoming unmanageable. Right people on the bus and on the right seat is yet another critical factor. The current set – many mediocre leading the initiative – is like driving the bus with handbrake on.   It will be interesting to witness the implementation (if at all) of Sharda Prasad Committee report on SSC. What effect it will bring on ground level only time will tell. An example, from Retail sector of “confronting the brutal facts” and “courage” ...

Time to Redefine Skill Development in India

The World Economic Forum predicts 5mn jobs will be lost before 2020. More skilled workforce will be needed in AI,Robotics, nano technology, 3D printing. And other socio economic factors replace the need for human workers, particularly clerical & manual. But the same technological advancement will also create 2.1mn jobs requiring different / specific skills and competencies. Like China has bought most industrial robots than any other country with the predictability of growth in manufacturing of 150% by 2018. Though skill training in trades like fitter, foremen are more, perhaps apt in Indian scenario until the technology adoption becomes a norm in various industries. Considering the pace, push & scale of Digitization currently happening, the focus will soon be back to manufacturing revolution which India bypassed earlier. i.e redefining Make in India
